Fòng Wǎn isn’t at all my real name. It’s a famous character in a Chinese comic. It’s Cantonese. The equivalent Mandarin pronunciation Fōng Yún. Literally, they mean “wind” and “cloud” respectively. A friend of mine give the nickname to me because my real name Wan is so common.
People always think I’m Chinese, some think I’m from Borneo, while some even think I’m an immigrant from Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, the Phillipines or Indonesia. Every time I look at my face in the mirror, I wonder myself which part of my face makes me look like a Chinese. It’s probably my eyelids that I inherit from my father who is a Bugis descent. Or perhaps it’s my mom’s nose that I inherit. Perhaps too, it’s because I lack testosterone hormon around my mouth that gives me a smooth, youthful look.
A Turkish friend said I look like Jet Li! Wow… whoever people think I am, I am a descent of Adam and Eve, which makes us all related to each other.

That’s too funny. Sounds like me. Everyone seems to think I am anything but Vietnamese
